Meet our Pastor

Born in Stamford, Msgr. Surwilo grew up in Darien. A graduate of Darien High School, he pursued his studies for the priesthood at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT & St. John's Seminary in Boston, where he earned graduate and post-graduate degrees in Liberal Arts, Philosophy and Theology. Ordained in 1963, he was assigned to St. Leo Parish in Stamford. In 1968 he began nine years of Catholic Secondary School work, one year at St. Mary Girls' High School in Greenwich and seven years at Stamford Catholic High School, with parish duties at St. Gabriel Parish in Stamford. During that period he earned an M.A.in Rel.Ed. from Fairfield University and was appointed the Defensor Vinculu of the Diocesan Tribunal. In 1977 he became assistant at St. Cecilia Parish in Stamford and in 1984 was appointed pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish during it's years of sustained building and growth. A member of the Presbyteral Council for 15 years, he was named a Monsignor in August of 1991 by Pope John Paul II.
